Northern Michigan fall backyard wedding in Maple City, Michigan provided by Kari Dawson, top rated Michigan wedding photographer, and her team.
Their story…
Christy and Tim met and attended middle school through high school together. They would cross paths during various stages of life and small connections through mutual friends. But it wasn’t until three years ago that a connection was formed and a romance blossomed. Neither of them ever married. For whatever reason the stars took a while to align for them. But now that they have, it is so clear they are meant to be. There were big, big smiles, a few tears and lots of laughter throughout their wedding day. Christy’s cousin stood by her side on her wedding day along with two friends who have spent, not just years, but two decades being the best of friends. Tim was also surrounded by his best of friends that have known each other since childhood. I also graduated high school with Christy and Tim so it was fun seeing a few familiar faces. As I began styling Christy’s details, her bridesmaids were so, so quiet. I told them I’ve had some pretty chill wedding parties before but none as laid back and these ladies were. Tara kindly reminded me that THEY are 40 now… I’m holding out. I have until late November to be 39. As I drove home from Traverse City thinking about this special day I actually said out loud ‘I can’t believe we’re 40.’
Their wedding day…
Tim and Christy own a gorgeous house on Lake Michigan. Across the street is a home and property owned by an old family friend which is where the wedding took place. The ceremony was set up just outside the charming red barn. Barrels of hay covered in kraft paper lined each side along with white chairs for guests to view the ceremony. Beside the fire pit sat a stack of roasting sticks. along with jars of marshmallows, milk chocolate and other yummy fixings for s’mores. The reception tent had edison lights strung from side to side. Running down the center were cream and gold paper stars that lit up and created a gorgeous statement along the center of the tent. The tables were draped in white linens and napkins. The centerpieces were simple bud vases full of dahlia’s and other fall florals in a pretty color palette that brought so much warmth to the reception. The dessert table was FULL of the most delicious looking donut bar along with a simple one tier wedding cake. There was an a-frame shelf just outside the tent that held stemless wine glasses for each guest to use for the evening and take home. Each glass was etched with T&C along with their wedding day and this adorable emblem of a heart with an arrow through it. The cake topper was a gold version of this emblem.
What I loved most…
There are a few things I love about Tim and Christy’s wedding and the planning. For many woman, it is our nature to plan every detail, want every detail to then be organized and in place, while trying not to stress about what could go wrong. I love that Tim took an active role in the planning and the carrying out of the plans for the wedding day. I love even more that his first priority was keeping Christy calm and feeling stress free. I love that while they did plan for and put pretty details in place, they put a lot more emphasis on making things amazing for their guests. They accomplished that with cocktails, an amazing caterer, and what might just be the best band I have ever heard play at a wedding. Every wedding is different and unique and every wedding is a fun event to be part of. But watching two people celebrate together their marriage knowing that they take nothing for granted made it a darn special day. I can’t thank you enough, Christy and Tim for inviting me into your celebration and trusting me with your memories. Big hugs – Kari
