When we put Kaitlyn + Mike’s engagement session on the books we knew we were headed for Detroit. I realized, the day before we were scheduled to shoot, that the Lions were playing at home. Thankfully we were able to reschedule. There’s nothing quite like getting lucky and scoring a sunny winter morning for a romantic urban downtown Detroit engagement session! We had so much fun exploring Detroit together. We landed in areas where I have never photographed and neither of them had seen either. I love being in Detroit. The city continues to blossom. I’m excited about taking my family to Campus Martius for some ice skating. It’s exciting to hang out with couples who enjoy the city as much as I do. Kaitlyn, Mike and I traded stories about some of our adventures in Detroit and I went home eager to explore new areas. The morning really was so beautiful that we walked over to Comerica Park. I kept laughing because the city truly was a ghost town except for a mini van here and there pausing for tourist photos. That was pretty funny to watch. Especially since we were about to shoot engagement portraits at said tourist attraction. Mike and Kaitlyn sported their personal Tiger shirts labeled GIBSON on the back. I remember Kaitlyn mentioning that Mike wanted to have their shirts captured because of an old Tiger player with the last name Gibson. Kirk Gibson lived down the street from my aunt and uncle in the 80s and I had a school girl crush on the handsome baseball player who also happens to be a Sparty! We ran on the rooftop of a parking garage. Mike enjoyed the conservatory on Belle Isle so much that I think Kaitlyn might be in for an upcoming date night. The warmth of the conservatory was a welcome break from the chill we could feel off of the Detroit River. I am so excited for your September wedding, Kaitlyn + Mike at Skyline Camp Retreat that is awesomely just minutes from my home 😉 I just know that it is going to be so unique and I can’t wait to see how everything comes together.
