Their style…

I always prep my couples for their engagement shoots with tips on hair, makeup, outfits, etc. The goal is to choose a location that resonates with you on a personal level. Then add outfits and props (if you want) to really bring your story and your personalities to life. Kayla and Steve armed themselves for their Heritage Park engagement photos with wardrobe selections that look and feel most like themselves every single day. They then added their favorite things: Steve’s old ball cap, Kayla’s bucket hat, and Steve’s acoustic guitar. No stress, no fuss, no frills. Just Kayla, Steve, a cozy blanket, and music all wrapped in their love and voila we have magic.

Their story…

Kayla ushered a friend of hers safely off to a first date from an online meetup before returning solo into the bar. Steve, also solo, was rocking a horrible sunburn from his day job after a particularly rough day. He noticed Kayla smelled like sunscreen and a conversation at a bar in Chicago commenced. Kayla left the bar that afternoon after writing her phone number down on a napkin for Steve.

Fast forward to January, 2019… Steve let himself into Kayla’s place. She found him on a bar stool in the middle of the living room, lights off, holding his guitar. Without giving it much thought Kayla turned on the lights and began removing the layers and layers required for a winter in Chicago. Steven was playing and singing a song he wrote about the pair of them. As Kayla began to exit the room she keyed into a few of the words and retraced her steps back toward Steve. Steven ended the song, dipped to one knee, and asked Kayla to marry him. They celebrated over a box of pizza. A slice missing that Steve ate while waiting for Kayla to get home from a late night at work.

Their love is easy. Laughter is plentiful. And I found it to be true joy to get to know them better and be in their presence. I’m so, so excited to see how your story continues to unfold on your Planterra wedding day!!!
