A Love Story That Blends Classic Style with Personal Touches
Rachel and Zach have that kind of presence. It’s magnetic. It’s warm. From the very beginning, they brought a quiet elegance to every moment. Their energy felt both playful and refined, the kind that turns a Tigers game into a date night, and a city rooftop into a memory you won’t forget.
Their Detroit engagement session reflected all of that and more. It was personal, stylish, and unmistakably them.
We began our afternoon at the top of the Z Lot parking garage. The Detroit skyline stretched across the horizon, and soft golden light poured over the rooftop. It wrapped around them like a warm hug.
As the sun dipped lower, Rachel and Zach moved with ease. From the very first shutter click, they were fully present: laughing, leaning into one another, and letting the city fade away behind them.
Next, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The classic white marble architecture offered a timeless backdrop for Rachel’s preppy, polished style. Zach’s calm energy balanced the scene. He made the experience feel grounded and natural, like they’d done this a hundred times before.
Together, they looked effortlessly at home in front of the camera. Even in the most composed frames, you could feel their real connection.
What followed next was one of my favorite parts of the day. We walked outside of Comerica Park, not for the crowds or the cheers, but for something quieter. Just the two of them, the stillness of an empty stadium, and a custom denim jacket stitched with “Mrs. Neistein.”
That moment felt like a pause in time. A reflection of all the games they’ve watched together, and the life they’re building now. You could see it in their eyes, the joy, the trust, and the anticipation of what’s to come.
Of course, their story doesn’t begin in Detroit. Zach proposed in the secret garden near the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. That location is special to both of us. My daughter celebrated her bachelorette weekend there, and I’ve had the privilege of photographing two weddings on the island.
There’s a certain cinematic magic about Mackinac. A little Dirty Dancing, a little timeless fairytale. That nostalgic romance found its way into this session too, in every glance, every gentle hand on her waist, every smile shared without words.
Rachel and Zach are planning a black-tie-optional wedding at Bay Pointe Golf Club. Based on this session, it’s clear their day will be filled with intentional beauty and thoughtful details. Even their registry tells a story, curated pieces in dusty blue, white, glass, and warm acacia wood. Every detail reflects who they are together.
Rachel and Zach, thank you for choosing me to document this season of your life. From rooftops to stadium seats, you let your real selves shine. And if this engagement session was any glimpse of your wedding day, I already know it will be extraordinary.
