The sky was full of puffy clouds that reflected off the pond just on the other side of the altar. Their baby girl sat perched on her grandmother’s lap. They read their own vows and said ‘I do’ on a perfect summer day. Adam and Brianna had a perfect Cherry Creek Golf Club Wedding!
I first met Brianna at Stephanie + Adam’s wedding as a gorgeous bridesmaid. Fast forward a year or two when we met to talk about her own wedding and I learned she and (her) Adam were blessed with this gorgeous little red head. Then we had their engagement session and a connection was instantly made (for me anyway). My daughter Karli joined me to carry my equipment and the four of us had so much fun. Belly laughed. Adam wasn’t a fan of being in front of my camera but his sarcastic and brutal honesty about it made it fun and funny.
Adam is a guy’s guy. He is the guy that I couldn’t really read. And I kind of pride myself on noticing the subtleties of people. He threw on his brand new pair of boots and I think he felt more like himself. More than once I watched as Adam would squat down with his arms open wide and their little girl would run like mad with her arms wide open toward her daddy. The letter he gave Brianna before the wedding, that made her shed tears, gave me a little peek into Adam’s heart. Not because I read it but because he must have shared a piece of himself in the form of words with his bride before she walked down the aisle. He might not wear it on his sleeve but he is a softy. If I wasn’t sure in that moment, I was as I watched his emotional reaction as Brianna come down the aisle to meet her groom.
The gorgeous day outside poured into the reception area making everything in the room light and bright. I might have gone a little crazy sharing the details but their wedding colors were my favorite color palette! And can I skip to the wedding cakes? Brianna’s sister is a pastry chef at Zehners folks. The wedding cakes were to die for! I’ve eaten a lot of wedding cake so I don’t say that lightly. Toasts ran the gamete of emotions but for the most part the room was filled with laughter. There were a few words shared about their late father and how much he is missed. Brianna kept him close with a pendant containing his photo on her bouquet and her garter that was made from his tie.
When stepped back outside as the sun was setting for a few quick minutes and Adam asked ‘can we just be ourselves?’ and I immediately relaxed. I love portraits but it requires that I be ‘on’. I want to keep my couples moving and interacting with one another so Adam’s request meant I could just let them be them. They’re my favorite images from the day. Couples often times don’t realize how little time you have together on their wedding day. Those couple of minutes gave Adam + Brianna a chance to sink into each other’s arms and take a deep breath.
