A Detroit Riverwalk Engagement Story…

I am so excited to share a peek into the life and romance of my beautiful new friends, Rishon and Bernadette. Their story is ten years in the making. And not without its fair share of bumps along the way. Join me on a romantic stroll through images on Belle Isle and their Detroit riverwalk engagement story.

I met Rishon previously when she ministered a wedding I photographed a few years ago. (Shout out to our resident triplet parents and prior KDP couple Megan + Evan). But when you are a same sex couple you can’t flippantly book a photographer on a whim because you appreciate their work. No, she and Bernadette were also looking for a photographer that would provide a safe place for them to be themselves. To be women grateful to have found each other. To have fallen in love. And to be excited to celebrate that love and their engagement through photos. To honor their current commitment to each other and the promise they have made to each other forever.

In the midst of their session we had vulnerable and honest conversations creating a unique experience, allowing me to physically see their emotional walls and protective barriers come down. Being a photographer is an honor. An experience that I do not take lightly. To be invited into the life, love, and story of other humans still knocks me off my feet sometimes. I want every person, in my presence, to feel seen, valued, loved, and honored. Who you are and who you love will be celebrated!!
