Inn at St John’s Winter wedding in Canton, Michigan provided by Kari Dawson, top rated Metro Detroit Wedding Photographer, and her team.
There is something so magical about the Inn at St John’s at Christmas. They spare nothing every year lining the entrances and many hallways end to end with gorgeous Poinsettia. Lavish Christmas trees ranging from 5′ to 25′ are erected in every nook and cranny and lit up with a simple clear light and lots and lots of gold bling.
Light flooded Katie’s suite as all the ladies finished with hair and makeup. Her dress hung near the balcony just above where I styled her shoes, bouquet and other accessories. The bridesmaids sat comfortably in their matching floral robes. A burst of laughter would erupt, usually due to the cuteness overload of Katie’s precious niece and flower girl. My heart strings were pulled with Katie’s mom saw the initials embroidered inside Katie’s dress, just over her heart to honor her brother who has passed. Mom looked on holding her granddaughter as Katie slipped into her dress and her sister got Katie all zipped up. As Katie descended the stairs Matt’s mom and sisters looked on and all began to tear up as they saw Katie. Story after story from Matt and Katie directly and from the loved ones surrounding them portrayed a match made in heaven and everyone was as excited about the couple for the wedding to take place.
Just across the hall Matt finished his preparations with his groomsman before heading to the courtyard to wait for his bride. Katie soon exited the building behind him. Matt turned to her and his eyes grew large before melting into a tender expression before he hugged his sweet almost wife. Katie’s bright and giggly reaction was equally priceless. We didn’t have a lot of time outdoors for portraits but the time we did have proved to be bright and sunny. Chilly for sure but sunshine wins all. The bridal party along with Katie and Matt were such troopers while we finished up outdoors. We had a blast wrapping up portraits and even some family formals around the Christmas trees inside.
The ceremony took place inside the chapel at the Inn at St John’s and was a lovely traditional catholic ceremony with a good dose of humor for good measure. Later, as expected, I became teary eyed myself as Matt and Katie danced to the duet Perfect by Ed Sheeran accompanied by Beyonce’. I can’t think of a more perfect choice for a first dance as husband and wife. I might be a little bias with my relative obsession with Ed Sheeran; second only to Justin Timberlake, of course. Matt and Katie, the two of you have been such a JOY to get to know and your friends and family made us feel so warm and welcome. Thank you for allowing the privilege of capturing your magical wedding day!! Hugs – Kari
