Matthaei Botanical Garden engagement session in Ann Arbor, Michigan captured by Kari Dawson, top rated Ann Arbor engagement and wedding photographer.
Their session…
Katie and Bryan initially planned to meet me at Kensington Metropark for their romantic engagement session. But in typical Michigan weather form, we had to regroup. I think we all painfully watched the weather the days before their session as it looked like a wash out. But the day of, it looked as though we were going to get lucky with a clear afternoon. Until 20 mile per hour winds were introduced. Ain’t nobody gonna look pretty in that. So, while I kept my fingers crossed for a gorgeous afternoon we bumped their session time a bit earlier so that we could frolic around the Matthaei Botanical Garden for a bit. We were all feeling much better with a solid plan that would guarantee a beautiful session. One that would not look like it took place in a wind tunnel. Once we were outside though we got rained on for a few minutes followed by a beautiful sunny sky. Good thing I carry a car full of clear umbrellas with me. Their session was like a Katy Perry song but I am so thrilled with our luck and so excited to share their gorgeous session.
Their story…
I always ask all my couples for a little snippet about their love story. Katie’s response was “We met at a gym at the ripe age of 19. I immediately fell head over heels for him on a superficial level (between his amazing smile, beautiful 2 different colored eyes, and tattoos). I actually hit on him first with my very well thought out pick up line of, do you listen to metal?.” And I will second all of that. Katie is a girl after my own heart. I worked with my husband at a chicken shack type restaurant in high school and flirted with him like mad. He never asked me out. After months of working together I took the plunge and asked him out myself. I can’t explain how at 15 and 18 years old something can settle into your gut but I think we both knew the night of our first date that we were it for each other.
Katie and Bryan and endured a lot in the years they have been together. When medical stress presents itself in your life, people tend to take things less for granted. Which is the case for Katie. She cherishes photographs and finds herself always looking back on them. Her wedding photos will be some of the most important to her. For years Bryan has humored Katie with each request to have his and their photos taken together. So I was so honored when Katie reached out to let me know that they thoroughly enjoyed their session with me. And Bryan walked away feeling grateful for not only their engagement session but for all the prior requests Katie has made. I am so excited to play a small roll in their epic story and I cannot wait for their Oakhurst wedding to arrive!
