New Baltimore engagement session on a boat at the marina under the michigan summer setting sun provided by Kari Dawson, top-rated Metro Detroit wedding photographer.
New Baltimore engagement session…
If you know or have followed my life, work, and social media for any length of time then you already know my deep affinity for front porch photos. The front door is the space that welcomes all your guests. It’s a space to enjoy friends, a cup of coffee and a good book, or a slow swing with your person. It’s the place where shelter is always provided and the light is always good. A place for milestones to be documented. Like being engaged for instance.
Sailing…
Leigh is a sailor through and through. I tried making a joke, that my husband loves to tell, about a boaters happiest days being the day you pick up your boat and the day you get rid of your boat. And Leigh adamantly disagreed. He is a member of the Grosse Pointe Yacht club where he and Danielle will be married this coming September. Sailing is now a true joy for both of them on a boat that Leigh has owned for seventeen years. Even better that their home is situated next to a private marina with their own sea wall and a space to dock the boat. They are only minutes from the big lake.
Chosing your location…
So when Danielle mentioned they wanted their New Baltimore engagement session to be taken at their home and on their boat I was so, so excited. You already know how much I love when couples choose their own locations for engagement sessions. For these two to have the idea for something so personal that they dedicate hours doing together… I couldn’t wait for their session day to come. Even better that we were blessed with a break (kind of) in the humidity combined with the most glorious setting sun.
Their style…
I adore the juxtaposition of Danielle’s refined Adriana Papell dress and Leigh’s casual go-to in his seersucker button down, cotton shorts, and boat shoes. I don’t know if matching the boat was intentional but my type a lil’ heart loves that they do. And since I cannot control the position of the sun I sure am glad I was lucky enough that they boat is stored and situated exactly where it is. The connection that these two share combined with such a personal backdrop and glorious light sets my heart a pitter patter. I absolutely cannot wait to explore the yacht club with them and see how their wedding details come together in September!
