The melody of Train’s ‘Marry Me’ floated through the air as Michael and Erika’s family and bridal party began to make their way up the aisle. “Marry me, if I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe’.” And I snickered to myself as Michael walked out of Waldenwoods, headed for the altar. Mike noticed Erika on campus a few times before he finally got the nerve to say hello… at pint night. They could not haven chosen a better song to start the ceremony that would have them husband and wife at the end. Their officiant spoke beautifully about them both and shared stories and words that Mike and Erika had shared with her. They both describe each other as selfless. That really is the secret to a happy marriage. Communication, common goals, knowing each other’s love languages and acting on it, being attentive… those are all great secrets also. But, even if we fail to to do any of those other things well, it won’t matter if we continue to put ourselves aside for the sake of our spouse.
Soon the doors swung open and Erika emerged with her dad. Dad waited until the very last minute before having his first look with his daughter. It was when she came down the stairs minutes before the ceremony that she greeted her father. They stepped out onto the patio toward the aisle but before her walked her up, he stole one last hug and kissed Erika’s cheek. Small things happen in split seconds on wedding days and it’s those swift little gems that get me crying every. single. time. Mike and Erika love being on the water. Mike even proposed on a sail boat in Traverse City. So Waldenwoods was made even more perfect as a venue for them with the outdoor ceremony taking place just off the shore of the lake. The ceremony was filled with giant smiles, belly laughs, and happy tears. The toasts the followed brought more of the same big smiles, belly laughs and happy tears. And before long bellies were full, drinks were flowing, and the dance floor was bumpn’. We were surrounded by the perfect mix of feminine and masculine. The wood walls were set off by the rustic florals. Shabby chic lanterns were placed at the center of each table that was then draped in pink and finished with hints of gold. If I were to plan a wedding, this is the wedding I would plan!
Michael and Erika, I enjoyed every single pink filled moment with the pair of you! May you remain selfless. May your home be filled always with joy. And may you always be surrounded by at least a hint of pink!
Waldenwods is quickly becoming one of my favorite reception venues. It is so charming!
Erika’s might be the first halter style wedding dress that I have seen. So, so divine!
Each of Erika’s bridesmaids received Kate Spade clutches!
I died over Erika’s rustic bouquet. It was a pure masterpiece created by Petit Fleur Events!
One of my favorites from the day and probably top on the list of images with bridesmaids. Those bouquets with the ribbon and ombre color scheme. And all set upon this charming southern looking venue.
Erika had a few sweet moments alone as she read a letter from Michael. I was so impressed that she didn’t cry. But then she did and it was one of the most tender moments of the day.
I love this shot that Elida (Elle Ticula Photography) got of the girls peaking out the window for the first look!
And it’s no secret, I LOVE first looks!!! It is one of the only moments you’ll have alone on your wedding day until it’s all over. And it gives me plenty of time for portraits 😉
This lovely shot was set up by Jess Ciaramitaro Video.
The following details that surrounded the ceremony and cocktail areas are vintage, rustic, shabby chic, romantic perfection!
I love this moment as Erika makes her way down the aisle with her dad!
Um, hello! Like I said, perfection.
And this divine layer of rustic, shabby chic-ness was created by Love and Buttercream.
