Some weddings dazzle with design. Others linger in the heart. Cindy and Mitch’s Detroit Yacht Club wedding did both. It was a summer day rooted in meaning. A tender balance of vintage elegance, family traditions, and real, unfiltered joy.
From the moment Cindy stepped into her heirloom jewelry and secondhand gown that needed almost no alterations, to the last beats of the dance floor where Mitch (in sunglasses!) surprised everyone with his moves, their day was a portrait of contrast and connection.
Mitch’s eyes welled up the moment he saw Cindy during their first look. Something she never expected from her typically reserved groom. They’ve always shared a quiet, grounded kind of love, so when Mitch went full James Bond glam (with custom portraits at the DIA and a boat named after the movie), it was a moment none of us will forget.
Before the wedding day even began, Cindy and Mitch hosted a rehearsal dinner and traditional tea ceremony. Cindy’s father became emotional while honoring family members who had passed, setting the tone for a weekend full of intentionality and meaning. On the wedding day, we photographed Cindy in her traditional dress before she changed into her gown from the Fara Sposa Collection. Later that night, she surprised everyone again. This time in a Tina Turner-inspired fringed and beaded reception dress that weighed more than she does. Brides… if you know, you know.
One of the first things Cindy told me when we met was how important the guest experience was to her, and she lived that promise. After their grand entrance, she made a beeline for her mother for a long, emotional hug. She and Mitch personally greeted every table, snapping Polaroids for their guest book, and taking pictures with loved ones before sitting down for a single bite. There was no wedding party—just immediate family—another sign of their grounded priorities.
Every detail, from the table linens to the florals, reflected a love for beauty and story. Cindy wore secondhand Jimmy Choo heels for the rehearsal and engagement session, then walked the aisle in new Randolphs. The reception space featured real hydrangeas, perfectly matching the patterned linens and napkins that draped each table. She even set a bloom aside just for me to use in her bridal details, a gesture that speaks to her thoughtfulness and trust.

First, a moment for the vintage car. A lot of couples think they’re booking a photo prop. But in my experience, when you rent a vintage car for real transportation, you’re actually booking privacy. A sacred pause in the middle of your wedding day. A few minutes just for the two of you. To breathe, to hold hands, and to realize: this is it.
I loved the intentionality Cindy and Mitch brought to every decision. They sourced personal elements not for budget reasons, but as a reflection of who they are. From honoring heritage with a tea ceremony to selecting design details that echoed their home and history, nothing was done for show, it was all rooted in meaning.
Because their timeline had margin, Karli and I were able to fully sink into the rhythm of the day. That space let us witness not just the big moments, but the quiet ones too. Like sharing vows in private and getting ready side by side in the same space.
They also included the next generation: nieces, nephews, and the littles of friends and family, all waving ribbon wands and ceremony bells with the kind of joy only kids can bring. It added the most charming layer to the celebration.
I especially loved that Cindy and Mitch trusted us to guide their portrait time based on light, not just backdrops. That trust gave us room to create something beautiful and true.
And finally, the details. Not one thing felt performative. From the art on the reception walls that echoed their design palette, to the hand-painted Zingerman’s cake, to the bows on their welcome sign that mirrored Cindy’s engagement dress. Each choice was deeply personal, never just added to cart.
And finally, that beaded dress. The final chef’s kiss to dance the night away together.
Thank you Cindy and Mitch for inviting my team and I into your space to witness and document the start of forever. Happy honeymooning! Hugs – Kari + Karli!
