As Jessica and I worked together to plan her engagement session with Taylor we threw a few different locations out hoping for a perfect fit. A location that is romantic and that would blend well with their future wedding memories at Planterra Conservatory. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to Detroit engagement session locations but we landed on the natural beauty offered by Stony Creek. I do love shooting in new locations. But, I also enjoy challenging myself in familiar spaces where the light is predictable allowing me to truly focus on working together.

Their story…

Jessica is a Michigan transplant from India with all of her family still residing in India. When I think of the experiences I have had in life, nothing compares to starting over, as a young woman, in a new country. The world pandemic has created challenges in allowing Jessica to see her family but they fortunately have made it work. Allowing Taylor to meet and spend time with Jessica’s family on multiple occasions. Together, they will travel this year to India as Jessica’s sister gets married and getting to share their special day with her family here state side.

Their love…

Taylor and Jessica’s love is quiet. Their personalties are meek. Jessica is humble and doesn’t want to be a bother to literally anyone. And Taylor just wants whatever Jessica wants. It was the quiet moments during their time with me when they would relax into each other’s embrace allowing their connection to be seen and documented. Jessica describes Taylor as being funny and confident while Taylor would describe Jessica as sweet and shy. Watching the small ways Taylor cares for Jessica and leads her through life is just so sweet. He reminds me of my own husband who would make himself uncomfortable or put his desires aside to accomodate me which Taylor would happily do for Jessica. His ideal date night is cooking in followed by a movie. And Jessica, like a Nicholas Sparks book, would prefer a picnic or to try a new restaurant. When I asked what they like best about being engaged they both said ‘spending time together.’ Isn’t that truly the point? To spend the rest of your life with the person you love being near the most!
