One of the most joyous moments in a couple’s life is their engagement, the beginning of their lifelong commitment to one another. When it comes to capturing the essence of this special time, choosing the perfect location plays a vital role. That choice begins with a quick brainstorm with my couples so that we end up shooting at a location that resonates with them on a personal level. For Sarah and Joe, Detroit was their top choice because the wedding itself is taking place at the iconic Colony Club. And so their Belle Isle engagement session in Detroit comes to life.

Belle Isle…

In the heart of Detroit, Michigan, lies a gem that combines natural beauty and urban charm: Belle Isle. Join me as we dive into a romantic engagement session that showcases the love story of a bride and groom-to-be against the backdrop of Belle Isle’s unique landscapes and rich history. From lush greenery to the sun dotted water, the island provides the perfect setting for an engagement session. Additionally, I personally love being surrounded by tourists and locals alike enjoying all areas of the island.

Belle Isle is chalk full of natural beauty but it also offers stunning architectural landmarks that add additional depth and beauty as a backdrop. The conservatory and the greenhouses are among my favorites. As a crazy plant lady, I am filled with so much joy seeing the greenhouses in use again. Joe and Sarah, surrounded by the Island’s rich greenery and quirky buildings, created, with me, timeless moments that reflect their deep connection and excitement for their upcoming wedding.

In the weeping willows…

One of the most exciting aspects of an engagement session, for me, is discovering hidden gems and lesser-known spots that provide a sense of intimacy. Cracking a bottle of champagne with Joe and Sarah amongst the weeping willows along the pond wrapped in the midst of the setting sun is the best example of that. The sun gleamed off the water and the breeze provided the perfect amount of movement in Sarah’s hair to really bring their memories to life. Their genuine smiles and affection moments blend seamlessly with the summer’s mild evening creating real moments that beam with happiness and love.

The bridge from engaged to married…

We had to spend at least a few moments along the river to draw in the iconic Detroit skyline which created the perfect preview of their upcoming Detroit wedding. The whimsy of their Belle Isle engagement session is the perfect juxtaposition to the elegance that awaits them at the Colony Club on their wedding day.
