Fall Planterra Conservatory Wedding Photography in Michigan by Kari Dawson + Co
A floral-forward, euro-inspired fall wedding at Planterra Conservatory in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, beautifully captured by Kari Dawson Photography, Detroit’s top-rated luxury wedding photographer. This romantic celebration blended heartfelt family moments, lush floral design, and the timeless elegance that defines the Planterra experience.
October weddings in Michigan are usually wrapped in crisp air and golden light, but not this one.
On Bianca and Spencer’s fall Planterra Conservatoy wedding day, the air shimmered at 80 degrees, the kind of unseasonable warmth that felt less like chance and more like blessing. Inside the Planterra Conservatory, the European-inspired glasshouse imported from Belgium, sunlight poured through the iron framework, catching the soft florals and golden accents.
Planterra Conservatory, with its living walls, botanical installations, and cascading greenery, has always been one of my favorite venues to photograph. The space is alive, literally, and it changes with every hour of light. For couples, it offers a true all-in-one experience: a floral design team, full-service planning, and an indoor-outdoor atmosphere that stays romantic in any season. But for Bianca and Spencer, it became something deeper, a vessel for their story.
Bianca and Spencer’s story began long before their vows. When Bianca lost her mother, she carried the symbol of a blue rose close to her heart, a tribute to resilience and eternal love. So when she met Spencer and learned he also was inked with a blue rose tattoo, it was as if felt herself had whispered “yes.”
Spencer is passionate; Bianca is calm and intuitive. Together they radiate both balance and joy. The toasts from Bianca’s brothers were emotional, heartfelt, and full of gratitude for the sister who helped raise them. Every word, every tear, carried that same theme: love that grows through time and faith. Spencer’s mom, Bianca’s father and others also gave equally touching toasts.
Bianca had a vision: floral, feminine, and full of breath. And she absolutely pulled it off.
Her gown, a Jenny Yoo masterpiece, featured a lace-floral overlay with removable off-the-shoulder sleeves. The perfect transition from ceremony elegance to reception ease. Her embroidered veil and soft curls, flawlessly styled by Kathleen Berg Beauty, completed a look that was both romantic and regal.
The florals, led by Planterra’s new floral director Kristen (former TV designer-turned-visionary), were unstructured and lush. Pastel blooms with cascading greenery surrounded Bianca’s delicate orchid bouquet, and of course, a single blue rose hand-crafted by the Planterra team to honor her mother.
Sweet Heather Anne created a three-tier cake that was as much sculpture as dessert. It’s clean ivory lines adorned with trailing blue florals that echoed the theme of love, memory, and artistry.
Planterra is one of those rare venues that feels simultaneously intimate and grand. The conservatory’s imported glass structure from Belgium brings natural light into every corner, while the tropical plants and architectural details transport you straight to Europe without ever leaving Michigan.
For couples considering a Planterra wedding: imagine exchanging vows under a glass canopy surrounded by living walls, with curated design, catering, and coordination all handled by an in-house team that obsesses over every detail. It’s effortless luxury, where every corner photographs beautifully, and every logistical worry is quietly taken care of.
As a photographer, I love the way Planterra’s light moves. Morning softness gives way to golden-hour glow that reflects off the greenery, making every image feel alive. It’s a space designed for those who value both artistry and experience.
The ceremony was emotional and joyful, full of laughter and warmth. With special moments like the old Scottish tradition of the hand-fasting and jumping the broom. The reception carried that same energy, led by Rodney Page, a musician and MC who transitions seamlessly between DJ sets and live violin performances. He’ll even teach line dances on the dance floor. Guests spilled onto the dance floor, the air filled with the hum of connection and celebration.
Two Penny Productions captured every moment in motion, while ShutterBooth kept guests laughing with photo-booth keepsakes.
The tables were dressed in gold candlesticks, soft cream linens (dupioni silk to be exact), and pastel blooms. Each centerpiece an artwork of balance and movement. The late-day sun cast long floral shadows across the tablecloths, one of those details you can’t stage, only notice.
For couples drawn to timeless European romance, Planterra Conservatory offers something rare: the experience of an indoor garden wedding that still feels alive and organic. Every inch of the space was designed with intention. From the Belgian steel beams to the curated stone walls, and it photographs like a dream.
Whether your vision leans floral and feminine like Bianca’s or modern and architectural, the venue’s built-in greenery, lighting, and planning support create an effortless foundation for high-touch design.
