We started their session among the ivy-covered arches of the Law Quad. Danielle used to study there, drawn to the peace and quiet. Walking those familiar paths again, now as an engaged couple, felt surreal. All around them, soon-to-be graduates posed for photos, adding a layer of nostalgia. A decade ago, they were in the same place, at the very beginning of their story. Now they’ve returned, ready to write their next chapter.

Campus Superstitions and Kisses in Tunnels

At the Diag, their eyes lit up. The bronze ‘M’ at its center still draws sidesteps from students who believe stepping on it before your first blue book exam will curse you to fail. Danielle and Gabe didn’t hesitate. They’ve already graduated, and kissed in the tunnel under the West Hall arch, fulfilling another Michigan tradition. I asked them to kiss there again, right where it all began.

Michigan Union Throwback

Next, we visited the Michigan Union to recreate a favorite old photo. They laughed at how much the area had changed, pavers now fill the spot where they once stood, but the moment felt just as special. Watching memories come flooding back was such a joy.

At one point, we attempted a playful dip. Danielle clutched Gabe and refused to lean back, bursting into laughter. “These are either going to be the worst photos or our most favorite ones,” she joked.
