Nestled in the thumb of Michigan, Camp Ozanam served as the perfect rustic backdrop for Michael and Katie’s big day. And I loved everything about their Camp Ozanam Wedding! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and Lake Huron blew in just enough of a summer breeze. Katie was having her hair done as she ran off the list of messages that needed to be passed on to the day of coordinators from Beautiful Day Planning (Nicole and Shelby were stellar!). Coconut water in hand, bridesmaids buzzing about, and behind her eyes you could see Katie’s to-do list tick line by line. Katie wore a simple and elegant gown that her mom purchased for her, secretly, more than three years ago. Katie found the dress online shortly after she and Michael first started to discuss marriage. Her mom bought it and tucked it away. It was no surprise that two of the speeches began that evening with the word “FINALLY!” Their day was surrounded by laughter. They, as a couple, were surrounded by friends and family who put their own time, effort, and creativity into building the perfect day for Katie and Michael. And perfect it was. They were married at the edge of a tall hill under the canopy of a large tree just off the waters edge. In leu of a traditional receiving line Katie and Michael jumped behind the bar to serve their guests. Hey, a couple that bar-tends together, stays together. Soon the sun set over the water as we wondered on the beach and played in the water. When we found our way back to the dining hall the twinkle lights were glowing and the music escaped the doors as their guests mingled, danced, and the children ran and played. We all had the pleasure of hearing a pretty animated version of how Katie and Michael met during bridesmaid, Katie’s, speech. But, I love that when I asked Katie about the proposal she said “it was actually Michael’s birthday.” “I gave him a pooper-scooper and he gave me an engagement ring.”
