Fall Stony Creek Metro Park Engagement provided by Kari Dawson, top-rated Metro Detroit Engagement and Wedding Photographer.
Megan and Erik met through mutual friends at a fourth of July party. Their love eventually led to a proposal in Traverse City. I might be partial as a Michigander but I love our Michigan beach towns. I can completely relate to the draw of the romance of these small, charming cities and why so many engagements happen on the west side of our beautiful state. After a snowshoe race that Megan and Erik participate in annually, they rode off on fat tire bikes in the snow. On a water break, Erik distracted Megan long enough to get down on one knee and completely surprise her. You can tell from the photos of her engagement ring that it is a 100-year-old family heirloom. It is a stunning piece. They just don’t make them like they used to. I particularly love that it is gold, too.
Every time I shoot in an area riddled with nature and creatures I always warn my couples of my aversion to things I can hear but cannot see. Because it could be anything. A little scatter in the tall grass is probably a squirrel but I’ve seen skunks roaming in broad daylight at Stony Creek. And I’ve shot in the black rattlesnake preserve at Indian Springs. So I just like to prep my people just in case I do anything to embarrass myself. I have a point, hang with me for a sec. I am also photographing Megan’s brother’s wedding next year and after chatting for a second about Alison and Bryan’s wedding I repeatedly began to direct ‘Bryan’. What a dope but no worries Erik had his playful revenge. As I wandered through a flat area toward the tall grass, Erik said ‘wow that’s a large snake.’ I stopped DEAD in my tracks and dramatically said ‘no it’s not!’ Then thankfully heard Megan and Erik laugh playfully behind me. Not too terribly embarrassing.
We had a great time chatting and exploring the park leaving me even more excited about their wedding next year!
